Cape Cod National Seashore, Provincetown, MA
Contract # P12PC40720
The Rebuild Herring Cove and Rehabilitate Nauset Light Beach Facilities project involves the replacement of the existing beach facilities at Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown, MA as well as renovations of the beach facility at Nauset Beach in Orleans, MA.
The existing building housed bathrooms, dressing rooms, lifeguard station, first aid room, snack bar, and a boat house as well as storage space. Due to coastal erosion at the beach, the concrete foundation has begun to settle and crack, creating unstable and unsafe conditions. Asbestos materials are also located throughout the building which need to be abated.
This project includes the demolition of the existing building and the replacement of it with modular structures that can be relocated in the future if necessary. All new structures are also being constructed on a piling system to create more stability in the sandy location. The new buildings include a restroom, changing room, lifeguard building, concession stand, and a garage. All the buildings, except for the garage, will be connected by a large deck. The deck will have extensions leading to the parking lot as well as to the beach. The deck will help reduce the dunes from being destroyed by human traffic.
The Nauset Light Beach facility will also have various roof repairs and cosmetic repairs to the surrounding boardwalk.
